How fuel cost is calculated
Distance ÷ km/L × fuel price
- Vehicle efficiency (km/L) is how far your vehicle goes on one liter.
- Traffic — stop-and-go driving usually burns more fuel than steady highway driving.
- Actual fuel use varies with driving style, terrain, load, aircon use and vehicle condition.
- One way vs round trip — round trip doubles the distance before calculating.
- Cost per person is the fuel cost divided equally among travelers.
Example calculation

How do I calculate fuel cost for a trip?
Divide the trip distance by your vehicle's fuel efficiency (km/L) to get liters needed, then multiply by the fuel price per liter. This calculator does that for you.
What does km/L mean?
Kilometers per liter — how many kilometers your vehicle travels on one liter of fuel. A higher number means better fuel economy.
How accurate is the calculator?
The math is exact, but the result is only as accurate as the numbers you enter. Traffic, driving style, terrain, load, weather and vehicle condition all change real fuel use.
Can I calculate a round trip?
Yes. Choose Round trip and the one-way distance is doubled before calculating fuel and cost.
